Degree Programmes: PgDip

In London we offer the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip). The PgDip is a nine-month programme for those with a strong interest in art history, perhaps looking for a qualification to further their knowledge and experience in this area, or looking for a career change into the art world.

Art, Law and Business Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip)
You will explore the important ethical and legal aspects of working in the commercial art world at the same time as getting the opportunity to study the History of Art. This course is designed to give you unrivalled access to the art market. Case studies conducted by experts in the sector are complemented by programme-oriented visits and lecture series.

History of Art and Art-World Practice Postgraduate Diploma (Pg Dip) 

You will select one of four options when you apply:

1. Art and Architecture from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and Renaissance 
You will have the opportunity to study Greek and Roman art, Byzantine Art, Romanesque and Gothic Art in all media, first-hand, including architecture up to and including the Renaissance. During this programme you have the opportunity to handle works of art, to be introduced to museum and auction house systems of classification and study different models of museum display.

2. Fine and Decorative Art from the Renaissance to Modern
You will study Fine and Decorative Art and its architectural contexts in the Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical periods culminating in the great artistic movements of the 19th and 20th century. You will also explore the settings for works of art in country houses, museums and galleries learning how to evaluate works of art at first-hand using professional systems for cataloguing and artefact analysis.

3. Modern and Contemporary Art 
You will study contemporary art through curatorial, theoretical and practical techniques which will place you at the centre of today’s commercial art world. Classes and visits are regularly led by visiting professionals including practising artists, gallerists, conservators, curators and critics.

4. Arts of China 
You will study all aspects of Chinese art from its origins to the present day using practical hands-on approach to learning informed by contemporary techniques of curating and display. Crucially, this programme engages with Chinese art-world practice and the curators, artists, dealers and others who shape the field.
