Our History

Christie’s Education is unique in being wholly owned by Christie’s auction house, signaling the importance Christie’s places on practical experience of art through education as the key to professional success.

Christie’s Education was founded in London in 1978. Situated in the heart of London, between Regent’s Park, the British Museum, The Wallace Collection and The National Gallery. As an associated institute of the University of Glasgow, Christie’s Education London offers Master’s and Undergraduate degrees at Christie’s Education London, jointly supervised with the University.

New York

Founded in 1993, Christie’s Education New York is located in Rockefeller Center, alongside Christie's auction house, at 1230 Avenue of the Americas, based on the 20th Floor. Christie's Education New York was originally located in Midtown Manhattan and moved in August 2016 to be closer to the auction house. Christie's Education New York is accredited by the New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education in their capacity as a nationally recognised accrediting agency. Christie’s Education New York carries out the Christie’s Education commitment to direct contact with original works of art through visits to Christie’s salerooms and well as private and public collections. Christie's Education New York offers a Master of Arts degree and continuing education programmes including certificates and short courses.

Hong Kong

Christie’s Hong Kong first offered courses to coincide with the major international sales and fairs in the late 1990s and in 2010 launched the `Introduction to the International Art Market’ series, followed by a series of short courses. Following on from this success, Christie’s and CEIBS (China Europe International Business School) joined together to launch the international programme: Global Art Market: Collecting and Investment.

Christie’s Education Dubai encourages and supports educational opportunities and holds exhibitions, educational seminars and charity auctions throughout the Middle East.  In October 2013, Christie’s Education Dubai held its first course: An Introduction to the International Art Market. This series focuses on both international and local themes, with exclusive access to private collections, personal tours and discussions with leading artists, curators and gallery owners.
